Rose Chocolate Charm by junosama Rose Chocolate Charm by junosama
Recently, I've been very interested in polymer clay, so I picked up a bunch of tools and have been trying out different things.

This is (supposed to be XD) a chocolate truffle with a rose on top, for my friend Rosie. It came out a bit larger than I'd hoped (about 3/4" tall) but I'm pretty satisfied with the results for a beginner's project.

The entire thing is made of Sculpey III, with a gloss coat.

Sorry, I don't know - a coworker took the photo for me, and probably borrowed it from someone else as a background prop.

how did you do the rose?

You start with a little ball, and make it into a cone. Then you roll out maybe 5-8 smaller balls, flatten them, and use your fingertips to further flatten the tips to make petals. You then carefully wrap each petal piece around the cone- try to pay attention to the placement and spacing of the petals, so that you're essentially making a "swirly" pattern with them (ie, like the "at" sign "@")

Hope that helps!

Really you made that with sculpty?
I've had such hell trying to use that product, getting really little details are stuff.. or maybe I just wasn't useing the right kind of sculpty.
Its Sculpty III stiffer then the other stuff by chance?

Actually, Sculpey has the most "traditional" clay consistency, in my opinion - you can smear it and it takes details well, though at the same time it's really soft so even a fingernail can put an unwanted mark on it.

I did some research on the different polymer brands out there, and might I suggest that you try FIMO- I've only had 1 experience working with it, but by what I remember, it wasn't very difficult to work with. Sculpey III however, is supposed to be the easiest to work with - but that really depends on the individual, I think.

My biggest problem with it was the clay getting to soft and my details wouldn't hold as well. Also the clay smeared to easily like it had grease in it or somthing. I think I'm just still tramatized from my sculpture comming appart when I baked it in the oven. The clay get soft when it cooks and it bends/breaks really easily before it cooled. I had a modle of one of my pictures made out of it and it broke at the feet while in the oven and it crushed all the detail work I put into the characters hair and face.. @.@ I was so sad.. ;_;.
I'll have to look into this FIMO clay. I was going to try this one brand it starts with a K I think.. I believe its german, alot of doll markers use it because it holds detail well.
Anyways.. thank you for the info. :3
